Saint Rita Orphanage, originally known as Home of Children, is a non-stock non-profit religious institution has been an apostolate of the Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters. It was founded by the late Mother Carmen Alba, A.R., who then riding through Quiapo and Sta. Cruz, Manila, saw small boys pestering vehicle riders, especially those in cars, asking for alms. Thereafter, putting up an orphanage became Mother Carmen’s obsession so that children of their ilk would have the proper guidance and sufficient preparation for a better future in life. November 1962, Doña Rita Vda. De Dias, donated to the Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters (CARS) two parcels of land for the orphanage through Sr. Martha Llanes AR. Another donor to the project was Doña Pia Vda. De Guidote, whose donation enabled Mother Carmen to start constructing the building to shelter the first orphan. On December 22, 1964, the first child was admitted. January 1965 other children were admitted. Mr. Gabriel and Mrs. Laura Elorde did their best to contribute to the said project, with the help of other generous people. The project was finally completed. The generous couple felt so much the need of the chapel. It was constructed and blessed on February 3, 1967. The 2 storey SROrphanage main building was blessed too. December 10, 1975 SROrphanage received a child – caring license and accreditation from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Saint Rita Orphanage was also registered with the Security of Exchange Commission (SEC). Presently, Saint Rita Orphanage is a child – caring and child – placing agency serving children who are abandoned, neglected, and surrendered by their biological parents for adoption. It is within the school compound with an address of Dr. A. Santos Ave, Sucat, Parañaque City, Philippines.
